Releasing negative emotion with EFT is a pathway to good health and wellbeing!!!
EFT (emotional freedom technique) was developed in the US in the 1990´s by ´Dr Gary Craig´ an engineer who studied the science of psychology (the bodies energy system)
EFT is an easy technique to apply in our daily lives to address uncomfortable emotions that can be released in a few moments (depending on the intensity of the problem)
EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture...where acupuncture uses needles to release negative energy from our system, EFT uses gentle tapping with the finger tips on the meridian points, to release negative emotions, such as anger, frustration, resentment, confusion, anxiety, or even phobias and panic attacks etc. EFT can also be used for addictions such as comfort eating, smoking and alcohol. In addition, it also releases headaches and other physical ailments.
what happens in a session?
The great thing about EFT is that we don´t need to go deep into the problem to relive our past, like counselling and psychotherapy (however, some people like to explore their issues to make sense of themselves, we are all unique and find our own way to deal with problems and emotions, there are no right, or wrong way, as long as we are releasing negative emotion out of our system, to remain healthy.
Here´s what happens in EFT...say for example you are angry at someone and you feel irritable every time you think of them and the situation keeps niggling you, causing anxiety, or any other form of discomfort. EFT focuses on the core feelings ´anger...irritation...anxiety... discomfort´ This is whats called ´tuning in´ to the negative emotion, in order for them to be fully acknowledged and felt, whilst tapping the meridian points, which are located on the face, torso and hands. The negative emotions are repeated several times as well as repeating a positive phrase, such as " I deeply and completely love and accept of myself"(sometimes other negative emotions surface, which will be acknowledged...felt and released. In addition other positive statements may be introduced depending on the individuals emotional problem) the positive phrases counteract the negative to bring us back to our natural state of mind.
How will i know the negative energy has been completely released?
The feelings are measured on a scale of 1 to 10. The scale is an anchor to measure the intensity of the emotion and to see the shift of energy taking place, so for example, at the start of therapy your anger is an 8 and may move to a 6 after the tapping procedure is complete. We then repeat the process until the scale reaches ´0´ where full balance is restored.
In addition a further re test is necessary to make sure the negative emotions have been fully dispersed...you will know if the emotions have completely cleared, because even though the memory to the event is still there, it will no longer have its emotional charge, which caused the anger, irritation and discomfort in the first place, instead, you will feel peace and calm.
Can the feelings return?
The feelings to that situation will not return. However, this doesn´t mean you will never feel angry, or irritated again with other situations in your life, because emotions are normal and natural. Emotions are our ´indicators´ to let us know whether we are on track of our life, in all areas. Any form of negative emotion is a sign to say we are off track with our thought process. Positive emotions are a sign to say, we are moving in the right direction. However all emotions must be passed through our system, to keep the energy system free flowing, balanced, healthy and whole
